Seroquel Class Action

Kim Orr is prosecuting a class action against AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals PLC, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, LP and AstraZeneca Canada Inc. (collectively, "AstraZeneca") seeking $170 million in damages for negligence, breach of implied warranty and failure to warn as a result of Defendants' development, manufacture and sale of Seroquel.

Seroquel is an "anti-psychotic" medicine prescribed to combat schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Seroquel is also prescribed for a number of "off label" uses, including depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and dementia.

The claim alleges that Seroquel causes numerous health risks including weight gain, increased risk of the onset of diabetes, hyperglycemia and blindness. The Claim seeks damages on behalf of all person in Canada who consumed Seroquel and their family members.

Kim Orr will bring a motion for the certification of this action as a class proceeding. The court has scheduled the certification motion to be argued November 21-25, 2011.
