Victoria Paris | Principal
Victoria Paris is one of the founding principals of Kim Orr Barristers.
Victoria's practice includes the prosecution and defence of class actions, complex commercial litigation and regulatory proceedings. Victoria's experience ranges from administrative hearings for health care professionals and investment advisors to acting for both the plaintiffs and defendants in securities, insurance, pensions and product liability class actions.
Victoria has acted as counsel to multi-national public companies in litigation in Canada, the United States, and Greece. She is the national coordinator for the plaintiff counsel in the Medtronic class actions in Canada, and acts as liaison counsel with the lead American counsel for the Multi-District Litigation in several matters.
Victoria was recently named one of the Litigation Lawyers to Watch in the upcoming December 2011 issue of the US/Canada Guide to Leading Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers, published by Lexpert, a Thomson Reuters company.
In 2010 Victoria was named a Rising Star, Leading Lawyers Under 40 by Lexpert.
Victoria's current and recent retainers include:
- representing the plaintiffs in a class action against Sun Life involving misrepresentations in the marketing of universal life policies;
- representing the plaintiffs in a class action against Timminco Ltd. for misrepresentations in its public disclosure documents;
- representing the plaintiffs and the national counsel group in class actions involving Medtronic defibrillators and defibrillator leads;
- representing a native band in a class action against the Canadian government regarding mold in housing on the reserve;
- acting for the plaintiffs in litigation involving pharmaceuticals including Avandia and Accutane;
- representing students in a class action against George Brown College involving misrepresentations with respect to a program in International Business; and,
- acting for Research in Motion Ltd. in the defence of litigation regarding historical stock option grants.
Victoria is a member of the Board of Directors of The Stop Community Food Centre, a non-profit organization that provides programs and advocacy to support people with their food and social needs. Victoria is a former member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Earth, a national non-profit environmental organization.
